Coach Stockberger became the fifth head coach in Monte Vista's history in 1981. In his first year as the Mustang's head coach, at the age of 25, Rob led the Mustangs to their first ever EBAL and NCS championships. As an encore, the Stockberger led team went on to be NCS champions the next two years, and again in 1987 - including the memorable championship game win over De LaSalle. Coach Stockberger came to the Mustangs as a graduate of San Jose State. Before taking the job as the Monte Vista head varsity coach, he had been the junior varsity head coach at Monte Vista for three years (1977-79), and at Cal high for one year. Rob stepped down as the head coach at Monte Vista when he was named the school's assistant principal in 1990. He went on to a distinguished career in school administration and leadership of the CIF’s North Coast Section for high school sports.
