Monte Vista vs San Ramon Valley

There was a mystery kicker in this game. Monte Vista's regular kicker for the first field goal was Brandon Hassfeld. But for the second field goal, in the third quarter, out trotted number 09. The field goal was good, and while the newspaper credits it, and therefore our stats report it as a second Hassfeld field goal, the Mystery kicker was Conor Kirkpatrick who was the kicker in the 2003 season.

While SRV put up a battle in the second half, the Mustangs put up a 17-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 35-14 victory. Someone had to lose all of these games, and I am happy to see SRV lost more than MV, but these were just great battles between two high quality football teams and programs.

Kyle Wright then led the Mustangs up the field – highlighted by a huge Kale Turner reception for 62 yards, and capped by Sam DeSa’s 6-yard TD catch – his fourth of the game - with four seconds left on the clock and a 46-44 Mustang win in hand.

This came was known as The Riot at San Ramon." After a late Monte Vista score, fights between players erupted on the field. Order was restored after ten minutes, but officials called the game with 53 seconds remaining on the clock.
